Where in the world are you located?
I’m originally from Chicago, but I live in New York now.
What was your favorite past time when you were young?
I used to play write short stories, draw comic books, record vocals over the Sonic CD soundtrack with my little shitty boom box, and play video games. I guess you can say I’ve been a recording artist since I was like 9.
What was the very first CD you remember acquiring as a kid?
The “Pure Disco” compilation disc. I used to love 70s disco when I was a kid!
What was the first concert or performance you ever attended?
NO idea, but the first image that comes to mind is Vanilla Ice performing with the ninja turtles in that movie. Haha.. . . . . OOOOHHHH! Now I remember, it was Twista when he was in the peak of his “Slow Jamz” fame. He performed at this little teeny night club, and I handed him one of my little demos of me rapping. I was like 15.
At what age did you begin to take music seriously?
I Started to take it seriously when I graduated high school in 2009. This was right after the housing crisis, and I fucked around in high school. So, I wasn’t going to any real college. I knew this is what I’m supposed to do.
If you had the chance to play one of your pieces to the ENTIRE world, what song would you choose?
That is an impossible question to answer. Everything I have unreleased is 100 times better than anything I have out. And I make lots of new songs all the time, so the answer to that question could change every month. But here, I think this one is pretty good and tells you what I’m about. . . it’s called “Organic”
Where did you find the inspiration for this particular track and what is the meaning behind the song?
I microdosed LSD for a month straight and I would record myself freestyling to beats and see what melodies flowed from the ether. The first 8 bars were all pretty much what I had freestyled, but just refined, and the chorus also flowed out of that same creative vein. The song is just about living healthy, and being a chill ass dude and what not.
What do you think about the state of the music industry today and how would you like to see it change?
I feel excited because the current music industry is filled with more opportunities for artists of every niche than ever before. If someone has start-up capital, then they have access to their audience. If someone doesn’t have start up capital, the labels are actually starting to do brand development on artists again. The music industry has finally caught up with the technology, and figured out how to make money in the information age. That is GOOD for the artists. I would like to see more JCole’s and Logic’s in the mainstream spotlight. I’d like to hear conscious pop songs. Since they hardly exist, I’m going to fucking make them. CONSCIOUS POP SONGS.
What is one issue in the world that you would like to see change in your lifetime?
I’d like to see people stop drugging themselves to death, eating garbage food that weighs them down into lethargy, and stop polluting the immediate environment with disgusting fucking petro chemicals. Oh, and stop smoking cigarettes indoors, pls. A nigga just wants clean lungs, really. That’s all lol. OH, and if we can get that plastic out of the ocean, that would be rad.
What current projects are buzzing and what future projects do we have to look forward to from you?
I ruffled some feathers by becoming “Sex The Rapper” for a year so the word seems to have gotten out that I’m a fucking weirdo. Even though I’m “Julian Xtra” now, and can play family events, people are still listening to my last album “The Sex Tape”. Up next is my ltrappier, poppier, happier, (but still lyrical) album tentatively titled: “Document 44: The Good Timeline”, or maybe “The Good Future”. We have le first single dropping sooooon asf.
Where can we find you on social media?
Is there anything else you would like the world to know about you?
The ego is a facade and you’re all thoroughly trippin. That is all.
